Cyclone the storm is projected to strengthen into a uncommon Category 5 cyclone as it turns toward Jamaica, delivering deadly flash flooding and rock falls.

The cyclone, which recorded wind speeds of up to 120 mph as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is now shifting northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to reach land by Tuesday, according to hurricane specialists.

Alerts of blackouts and disruption to utilities have been issued as this storm generates up to 76cm of precipitation and coastal flooding as high as 4m above typical tides. "Find safe refuge immediately," locals have been advised.

Melissa is the thirteenth storm in the current Atlantic storm period, which typically ends in the eleventh month.
