Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is unclear and the United States has remained silent.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
