Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Concerns.

'Serious blow' for the English camp as Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems when he left the field on the second morning in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.

The touring camp reported Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time away from the action to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The concluding match of the tour in Sydney begins this coming Sunday.

England have been without strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was dropped from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs with the bat among just a trio of teammates to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he resumed the next day and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, at the end of that over, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match having missed the previous Test.
