The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
